The acquisition of recharge lands is essential for conserving and protecting vital recharge areas that directly impact the health and sustainability of the San Marcos River and its associated springs.

In December 2023, Hays County allocated $332K to secure a conservation easement on the 75-acre Owl Bluff tract along Sink Creek. This area is rich in karst recharge features and plays a critical role in maintaining water quality in Spring Lake through groundwater recharge and stormwater inputs.
