Starnes Ranch, a 52-acre property near San Marcos, was preserved through the 2020 Hays County Parks Bond with support from the Hill Country Conservancy. Completed in August 2024, Starnes Ranch protects water quality and critical wildlife habitat, including ten bird species in need of conservation.

Starnes Ranch is a 52-acre property located near San Marcos, which was recommended for a conservation easement as part of the 2020 Hays County Parks Bond. In collaboration with the Hill Country Conservancy, Hays County Commissioners allocated $111K from Park Bond funds to help preserve the natural landscape of the area, which was completed in August 2024.
Starnes Ranch is a vital natural area and includes a hardwood forest along Sink Creek and Little Sink Creek, which helps protect water quality for the Edwards Aquifer and Guadalupe-Blanco River basin. The property also provides crucial habitat for wildlife, including ten bird species in need of conservation. This preservation project has now been completed as of March 2025.
