OVERVIEW

Cape’s Pond Park is situated near the San Marcos River just east of I-35 in San Marcos, Texas, and includes a 5.8-acre pond. Hays County is working to develop a Conceptual Park Plan (Plan) in collaboration with the San Marcos community. This collaboration enables Cape’s Pond Park to offer inclusive activities and amenities that reflect the desires and needs of the local community with a welcoming space to enjoy the natural landscape and water features.

POTENTIAL PARK AMENITIES

Public input will be a vital component to the development of the Plan and understanding which programmatic park elements will best serve the community. Potential amenities may include but are not limited to:

  • TRAILS
Trails will be included in the development of the Plan to connect to regional trail systems including the Emerald Crown Trail which begins in Kyle. Trails will provide opportunities for both nature exploration and multimodal travel.

  • RECREATION AREAS
Options for recreation may include playgrounds, open spaces, and swimming and fishing amenities.

  • EDUCATIONAL COMPONENTS
The project may also include educational components such as rain gardens, signage, and drainage improvements integrated with other local projects.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
The park may prioritize ecological sustainability by emphasizing project elements like riparian area preservation and bank stabilization, or limited development.

  • FACILITIES
Potential on-site facilities may include an activity center, restrooms, vending opportunities, and paved parking spaces.
